How long have you been doing what you do, and how did you become a business coach and mentor?
To answer this question, it’s probably best that I share with you a defining moment, and a resulting “compelling story”, that brought me to where I am today – coaching creative people like you on exactly what to do to get the gigs or jobs they want and have the systems to build a predictable business and income. That defining moment in my life happened in 2011.
A few years earlier, I was married to the wrong person, raising two children and had put my passion on the shelf because that’s what everyone else expected of me.
Growing up, my family expected me to become a doctor. I was the typical driven student and was awarded a full scholarship. By the second year, I was burnt out and knew a career in medicine wasn’t for me. I was an artist inside and longed for adventure.
To my parent’s disappointment, I self designed my own major in Creative Arts. When I graduated, I made my living as an independent photographer, staged theater tours and was having a great time. But the loneliness and non-approval of my family started to weigh me down and erode my confidence.
My spirits were lifted for a nano-second when I met my now ex.But within a month of our marriage, I knew we shouldn’t have done it. At the same time, I learned I was pregnant. Five years and two children later, we both were miserable and ended the marriage – no child support, no alimony.
I moved back to my parent’s home with two toddlers, two cats and a dog. They still had the mindset that I was supposed to give up everything career-wise while I raised my children. I loved the idea of entrepreneurship, working for myself and being free, but I had to fight for my independence, ignore the negative talk that surrounded me and figure out how to free myself from everyone else’s opinions about what I should or shouldn’t do.
All I kept saying to myself was: “How did my life end up like this?! How did I end up at 30 years old, completely broke, becoming a single mom with no financial support, fighting the car repo man and giving up on my dream? How will I ever break free, learn to fight back and stand up for my life and what I want when no one believes in me, my artistry and I barely believe in myself anymore?!?”
I cleaned up my past and started teaching women creatives how they can do the same: I watched their confidence SKY-ROCKET as they build the structure and systems to make money with their creative arts business – whether it’s booking a gallery show or getting more television commercial gigs. I have since made a commitment to dedicate the rest of my professional life to
helping other self-employed, sole practitioners in the creative arts breakthrough their inner blocks, put solid systems in place to make more money and have the FREEDOM to create the life and business they’ve always dreamed of.
Since then, I’ve worked with many private clients, spoken in front of countless groups: I lived my dream of traveling with my husband and five kids everywhere our heart’s desire and earning an income while I travel with my online business; and I have created several programs for Creative and Driven Entrepreneurs, that are all centered around my proven system of five important inner and outer business building steps every photographer, writer, business coach, artist, performer or other business minded woman needs to apply to get out of her own way, create a steady income stream and have the career and business they want on their own terms in record time.
